A natural born artist, Leigh was first “discovered” by her second-grade teacher. Leigh doodled a lot, and her teacher loved her drawings so much that she brought them to the attention of Leigh's parents, as well as the Toledo (Ohio) Art Museum, which awarded Leigh a scholarship. Every Saturday, Leigh attended classes at the museum, where she gained valuable exposure to art and honed her skills. The experience had a profound effect on her, helping to fuel her lifelong passion for graphic design.
That continued passion is reflected in the name of her agency. Amaranth comes from the Greek word amarantos, which means “unfading.” It is both a color and a flower, and the amaranth of legend refers to an imaginary flower that never fades. In choosing the name, Leigh likened the concept of the unfading flower to the timelessness of effective artistic design.
After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Bowling Green State University, Leigh began her career as manager of the art department for Dana Corporation. She then spent several years as the Creative Director for a local advertising agency before launching Amaranth in 1995.
Leigh has more than 25 years of experience in creative direction, graphic design, advertising, and marketing. She specializes in logo development, and has extensive expertise in creating a wide range of campaigns, from corporate brand collateral packages to national product packaging.
Leigh has worked with major universities, corporations, small businesses, agencies, and nonprofit organizations, and has directed national photo shoots starring world-renowned sports figures, Penny Hardaway, George Brett, and Terry Bradshaw. She has also contributed her time and talents to a number of community boards, including FiftyForward, Benton Hall Academy, CABLE, and Vanderbilt Women, and the Gender Department Community Advisory Board.
